Recognition highlights The Los Angeles Recording School’s premier programs and facilities

The Los Angeles Recording School (LARS), a subdivision of The Los Angeles Film School, has been named one of the Billboard Magazine’s Top Business Schools of 2024. This honor, granted to the school for the seventh consecutive year, emphasizes its range of professional degrees – including the Music Production Degree Program – along with the school’s extensive facilities, which feature professional recording studios.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by Billboard Magazine and included on this esteemed list for another year,” states Los Angeles Film School President Tammy Elliott. “Our faculty’s dedication, our students’ devotion, and our alumni’s ever-growing contributions and accomplishments all play a part in shining the light on who we are as a school and in the development of the next generation of entertainment industry professionals”.

Located in Downtown Hollywood, the LARS shares a neighborhood with several major professional recording studios, including SSL Duality Studio, Foley/ADR Suite, Neve Genesys Black Console, Avid ICON Work Surfaces, and SSL XL 9000K Studio. This allows students to gain valuable real-world experience while remaining close to campus.

Released on Monday, Billboard writes, “Students explore the entire record-making journey at The Los Angeles Recording School.” The outlet also highlights the “active speaker roster” that the recording school has established, hosting speakers like Universal Music Group VP of sound and picture Roey Hershkovitz, who visited students in June.

The school’s faculty is also award-winning, consisting of esteemed producers and engineers who have worked alongside many famous artists ranging from Bruno Mars to Beyoncé. Related degrees offered at the school include:

The L.A. Film School recognized for 10th year in a row by Variety Magazine

Variety Magazine ranked The Los Angeles Film School as one of the top film schools in the U.S., as a part of its 2024 Entertainment Education Impact Report. This recognition marks the 10th consecutive year the school has been celebrated for its outstanding contributions to the film and entertainment education industry and serves as an example of the school’s quality of programs and faculty.

In 2024, The L.A. Film School is commemorating its 25th anniversary and celebrating the milestones that have led to 25 years of excellence as a school but, most importantly as a community of filmmakers, entertainers, and educators.

“The schools on this list collectively offer an impressive array of educators, facilities and lessons to be learned. Countless alumni from these programs have become legendary names in the industry,” says Variety Magazine. “They have created award-winning films and television series, enacted change both on-screen and behind-the-scenes, and often give back to the institutions that fostered their talent.” 

Since opening in 1999, The L.A. Film School has established an expansive program catalog designed to prepare the next generation of creative professionals for a future in the entertainment industry. Students can choose from more than 18 undergraduate degrees, including Animation, Audio Production, Digital Filmmaking, Entertainment Business, Film Production, Graphic Design, Media Communications, Writing for Film and TV, and Music Production. Additionally, its extensive alumni network features professionals working in film, TV, music, and animation.  This award season, The L.A. Film School saw 94 alumni credited on nominated projects at the Grammys, Emmys, Oscars, and Golden Globes, with alumni credited on 19 major award-winning projects.

The Film Degree Program receives accolade from top industry publication for the fourth consecutive year

The Wrap magazine ranks The Los Angeles (L.A.) Film School as one of the top film schools in the U.S., as a part of its Top 50 Film Schools for 2023 ranking. Released annually, this list is compiled based on data points such as student body demographics, class sizes, networking opportunities, as well as insights from industry experts. This accolade signifies the school’s commitment to creating an immersive curriculum that integrates technical knowledge with artistic exploration and creativity, taught by industry-experienced professionals. 

Today, students continue to choose The L.A. Film School as a place to make an impact. Whether it is inside or outside of the classroom, the school places importance on initiatives to enhance the community and create connections with diverse industry ties and firsthand industry exposure. “The school has invested in building community and creating relationships between students through a ‘robust social calendar’ ranging from Zoom mixers to trivia nights to industry speaker forums,” said The Wrap magazine.

The Film Degree Program receives accolade from top industry publication for the ninth consecutive year      

Variety Magazine ranked The Los Angeles (L.A.) Film School as one of the top film schools in the U.S., as a part of its 2023 Entertainment Education Impact Report. Produced annually, the report highlights the nation’s top programs in all areas of filmmaking. Receiving the accolade for a ninth consecutive year shines a light on the school’s talented students and faculty, as well as on its focused education model featuring both on-campus and online programs.

In 2023, the Education Department continues to expand its partnerships with production studios giving students an opportunity to further develop their on-set skills in real production environments.

On the impressive achievements of The L.A. Film School, Variety Magazine states… “the film degree here allows students to pursue concentrations in production, directing, or cinematography and offers bachelor’s and associate degrees through its Hollywood campus and through online programs. The school partners with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for the Gold Rising Intern Track, which gives students hands-on experience on active film productions. ‘In 2023, the Film Program introduced new programming in the Animation/VFX Program that will allow shared classes with the Film Program, so students can develop on-set skills for visual effects artists and supervisors,’ says Charles Kanganis, director of education.”

In response to an exponential growth in online learning over the last few years — 72% of the school’s 4,500 students are enrolled in an online program — LAFS has been increasing its virtual opportunities for students, adding online clubs to parallel the on-campus IRL ones, and is starting a student Discord community. Tuition varies by program, but a full four-year degree runs about $15K-$25K per year.
